uNu Superpack Portable Battery Review

Need more power for your Smartphone on-the-go but a battery case doesn’t exist for your phone yet? Read on to see if the uNu Superpack will get the job done.

While battery life for many Smartphones and other portable electronics has gotten better over the past few years, sometimes a full charge just doesn’t last a full day. Of course there are many options available these days including larger batteries or battery cases but if you’re the type of person that doesn’t want that extra bulk then a portable battery pack might be what you need for a charge on-the-go.

The uNu Superpack  is a portable battery pack that allows you to charge any USB-powered gadget on the go. The device contains a 10000mAh battery which allows anywhere from 3-5 cell phone charges before the Superpack goes dead. In testing, we got about three full charges of our test phone (iPhone 6+). Having this much extra battery power is great, but what makes it better is how easily portable it is. uNu claims that the Superpack is the world’s smallest 10,000mAh battery pack. This makes the Superpack extremely easy to throw into a purse or backpack. I personally keep it in my jacket pocket so I always have power whenever I need it.

On the front of the device are two USB outputs, a microUSB input and a power button and on the side there are four LEDs that show the battery-pack charge level. For the two USB ports, both output at the standard 5V but one is capable of 2.1A of charging current while the other charges devices at 1A. The 2.1A charging port is perfect for tablets or newer Smartphone’s (like the iPhone 6/6+ and Samsung Galaxy S5) that are capable of utilizing the added current. As far as charge times go, in testing I noticed that the 1A port charged an iPhone 6+ at the same rate as the standard iPhone charging block while the 2.1A port did charge considerably faster (about the rate of a 12W iPad charging block.)

Having 10000mAh of capacity sure does last a while of charging devices, but what happens when all that power is gone? A great feature of the Superpack is that it will accept a charging input up to 2.4A so it is able to recharge faster than many of the other battery packs on the market. In testing, it took 4.5 hours to charge from empty to full using a 12W Apple iPad charger. If you’re not fortunate to have one of these higher output charging blocks expect more like 10 hours with a standard 1A charger.

Charging Cable:

Being someone who has both iOS and Android devices it can be hard to keep track of having both Lightning and MicroUSB cables with you at all times. Personally, one of my favorite features of the Superpack is the fact that the included cable is MicroUSB but has a MicroUSB-to-Lightning adapter attached to the end of the cable. This comes in super handy when you’re done charging your iPhone and your buddy needs a quick charge on his Galaxy.

In summary, if you are looking for a portable way to charge multiple devices on-the-go for that extra power to get you through the day, the uNu Superpack is definitely a solid choice.
