E3 2012: WB Announces Injustice: Gods Among Us, a DC Fighting Game from the Creators of Mortal Kombat

Talk about unexpected! WB announced Injustice: Gods Among Men, a brand new fighting game from MK co-creator Ed Boon and his team at Netherrealm starring characters from the DC Universe. Confirmed characters so far include Batman, Superman, The Flash, Harley Quinn. Wonder Woman and Lex Luthor with more to be announced as time goes by. The video showcased gameplay from a 2D perspective but it remains unknown if the fights will shift into a 3D environment as well.

According to Gamespot, the characters will be split into two categories based on their skills: Power and Gadget. Superman, The Flash and Wonder Woman seem like they would belong to power whereas Batman, Lex Luthor and presumably Harley Quinn will be more gadget based. Attacks will be different depending on what character you use and environment actions will change depending on what category you are playing in. For example, Superman will be able to smash enemies heads into environments much like in the trailer above, a while a gadget character may be able to activate items in the area to fight their enemy such as a car.

Mortal Kombat (2011) was a fantastic release last year, and I am intrigued to see what else NetherRealm has up their sleeve with this new title. Hopefully it won’t end up like Mortal Kombat Vs. DC Universe. Expect Injustice: Gods Among Us in 2013 on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and the Wii U. Tell us what you think below!
