Review: ZAGGsparq 2.0

Looking for a way to charge your cell phone on the go without needing an outlet? Read on to see if the ZAGGsparq 2.0 fits the bill

With power-hungry smartphones becoming the norm, many people are forced to look into getting extended batteries just to have enough juice to last the entire day. If you are unfortunate enough to have an iPhone without an upgrade-able battery or just don’t feel like adding the bulk of a bigger battery, then you are left with trying to find a place to charge your phone at some point during the day. Sometimes it is not always possible to plug your phone in for hours at a time to charge; especially if you are on the go.

Device:

The ZAGGsparq 2.0 is a portable battery pack that allows you to charge cell phones and other devices on the go. The device contains a 6000mAh battery which allows anywhere from 2-4 cell phone charges before the ZAGGsparq goes dead. In testing, we got about three full charges of our test phone (HTC Thunderbolt).  On the front of the device are two USB ports so you can charge multiple devices at once. One of the ports is optimized for smartphones. This port did charge the device faster but the difference was minimal. There are also four LEDs that can show the ZAGGsparq’s charge level. A built-in AC plug lets you plug the ZAGGsparq into the wall to charge without worrying about a separate charging cable or adapter. For being such a powerful charging device, the ZAGGsparq is about the same size as a Macbook power adapter and is very portable.

Problem:

With this device being put to the test every day in a variety of conditions, its durability was definitely tested. We did run into one issue to note; the button that can tell you the remaining charge stopped working. This is only a minor issue as the device still works minus that functionality and just means we have to estimate the charge level based on how many times we’ve charged our phone. When the device is plugged in the wall to charge, the lights show the state of charge. Aside from this small issue, the ZAGGsparq is a great device and continues to be put through its paces.
